Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU), located in Wenzhou, China, one of three Sino-American universities with NYU Shanghai and Duke Kunshan University, is approved by the Ministry of Education of China. Launched in 2012, WKU offers a unique model of higher education in partnership with Kean University, a comprehensive public university in the State of New Jersey accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. WKU covers approximately 500 beautiful acres and currently hosts approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. It is currently experiencing rapid growth, which will bring enrollment to 7,000 students over the next five years. All instructions are in English and all programs are provided by Kean University. In addition to its 18 current undergraduate programs, WKU has been approved by the Department of Education to offer 8 masters programs and 3 doctoral programs. Wenzhou is one of the most dynamic and economically advanced developed cities on the east coast of China, located an hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai.

About the job:

The College of Science and Technology is looking for two tenure-track Assistant / Associate Professors in Environmental Sciences. One post will focus on meteorology and environmental modeling and the second post will focus on hydrogeology and geology. Tenure-track positions are full-time ten-month assignments. Tenure-track professors are required to teach 24 credits per academic year; service to the university and / or professional community; and conduct research. Tenure track applicants must demonstrate academic ability and an active research program. Teaching time off is available on request to support the development of external research grants and other significant research efforts. The University will provide seed grants to help applicants start their research programs. Fluency in English is required.


A doctorate is required in the relevant field (s) for tenure-track positions. ABD will be considered for Assistant Professor positions with a completion date prior to the effective date of employment. Fluency in English and the ability to teach upper division courses related to hydrogeology, geology, meteorology and modeling in general environmental science courses. Tenure applicants are expected to plan and conduct research and develop extramural funded research programs involving students, which is essential for tenure and promotion. Tenure track applicants are also expected to publish peer-reviewed journal articles in high-impact journals in fields closely related to environmental science. In addition to the teaching and research tasks engaging students, applicants are also expected to contribute to the growth of programs including, but not limited to, program development, program evaluation, recruitment / student counseling, senior project supervision, internship opportunities, undergraduate research experiences (REU), etc.

Teaching duties and related responsibilities may include daytime, evening and online classes. Interest or experience in using advanced educational technologies to improve the teaching / learning process is highly desirable. All teachers may be required to teach general education courses as needed. Opportunities are also available to teach disciplinary support courses.

Faculty positions at WKU offer:

  • $ 68,000 to $ 75,000 for assistant professors; $ 75,000 to $ 85,000 for associate professors. The salary of extraordinary candidates is determined on a case-by-case basis.
