Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed commissioned the state’s first environmental science laboratory to anticipate and manage problems and protect the environment.
The governor noted that the lab was designed to test a minimum of 15 parameters of each of the basic environmental components.
Commissioning the Bauchi lab on Monday, the governor said the modern environmental science facility will serve as a reference center for testing the quality of basic environmental components, including water, soil and plants.
According to him, the lab will also serve as a one-stop solution center for the analysis and safe custody of samples collected during the environmental scan.
Governor Mohammed asked the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) to conduct an environmental scan for the state to highlight existing and anticipated environmental issues in the 20 government areas. state local.
He said the decision is to identify vulnerable groups, measure the extent of the problems, propose solutions in accordance with best management practices (BMP) and provide cost estimates for implementing the proposed solutions.
“I feel very honored to be at BASEPA’s premises and to welcome everyone to this very important occasion, which is the first of its kind in the history of our beloved state.
“I am pleased to inform you that the sophistication associated with the capacity installed in the laboratory allows testing of a minimum of 15 parameters of each of the basic environmental components listed above. “

“With the government fully aware of the need for evidence and empirical data to deal with emerging environmental issues, we have joined the global trend of responding to issues based on science,” he said.
The governor said the state government is formulating supportive policies that will clearly describe and inform the state’s citizens of their roles and responsibilities in ensuring a clean environment, as the project noted. Bauchi State Waste and Pest Management Policy which is currently under review by relevant stakeholders, and its recent guidelines for carrying out environmental remediation throughout the State. State are part of the effort to achieve a clean environment.
The governor received an award of excellence from Cleanup Nigeria for ruling “the cleanest state in the northeast”.
