At the COP26 summit, Prime Minister Modi said that India would cut 1 billion tonnes of emissions from forecasts by 2030.

Making five major announcements at the climate change meeting in Glasgow – he called it ‘Panchamrit’ – Modi also agreed to global demands to accept a net zero emissions target, setting a 2070 date for achieving it . India was the biggest emitter, and the only G20 country, not to have announced a net zero target so far, and there was a growing clamor for it to accept one.

That aside, the Prime Minister has significantly increased India’s previous climate targets, mentioned in pledges made during the Paris agreement.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Modi will also host a session on “Creating a Conscious Planet” with Sadhguru on Friday morning.
