WATCH: Young people do their part on World Environment Day

In an effort to clear the streets of litter and resulting social ills, the newly formed Greenwood Park CPF Youth Desk recently embarked on a clean-up campaign in commemoration of World Environment Day.

“One Earth” was the theme for World Environment Day 2022 and it draws our attention to playing our part effectively while living in perfect harmony with nature – without proving it to be a burden.

This initiative, which was the first event organized by the newly formed structure, saw more than 40 young people brave the crisp winter morning air to bring positive change to their community.

The energetic and boisterous youngsters devoted their youthful exuberance to cleaning up Effingham, Belmont and Avoca Roads, Deepdale Avenue and Desai Crescent, to name a few. All this, within two hours. Ashlin Ellan, chair of the Greenwood Park CPF Youth Bureau main body and sub-forum 2, was delighted with the outcome of the initiative.

“After the widespread damage and devastation caused by the floods, we have seen the deterioration of our environment. We, as local youth, have come together to make a positive impact in our neighborhood. Another reason we chose to do this cleanup is that we wanted young people to be united and also to come to our residential neighborhoods and show residents what we do as a youth office. Since we are still in our infancy, we will need community support for the youth office to take hold in the area,” said Ellan.

Various security companies were also present, providing protection for the volunteers as they walked through the neighborhood.
