What is the theme for World Environment Day in 2021? The annual UN Awareness Day has returned. So, let’s find out more on #GenerationRestoration!

Each year there is a different theme for World Environment Day. The day was first established on June 5, 1972 by the United Nations, although it was not recognized in the United States until 1974.

In 1974, the theme was “One Land”. Overall, the day is an opportunity to show a little love for the planet and to recognize the importance of the environment to people and habitats around the world.

What is the theme for World Environment Day in 2021?

The slogan for World Environment Day in 2021 is “Reimagine. Recreate.Restore. and the general theme is “Restoration of ecosystems”.

By restoring ecosystems all over the world, nature’s habitats will begin to return and issues such as climate change may begin to improve.

The UN writes on its website that between 2021 and 2030, it proposes “a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from mountain tops to the depths of the sea“.

World Environment Day: Generation Restoration

On World Environment Day, #WorldEnvironmentDay and #GenerationRestoration are used on social media posts.

From restoring forests to peatlands, World Environment Day calls for urgent action to revive damaged ecosystems across the globe.

The UN writes that restoring ecosystems can have many benefits for people, including job creation for people in rural areas.
